ABSTRACT:

Inthelastfewyears, low-cost adsorbent materials for the removal of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Mn and As) from contaminated water, have been successfully studied. The purpose of this paper was to comparethedifferenttypesof bio-sorbent materials from agricultural and wood residues and the factors influencing the adsorption process in their removal capacity of heavy metals in aqueous means, such as duration of contact, the effects of pH, and temperature. This way, relevant information is presented, such that it will serve as a guideline for future research about the use of bio-sorbents in water treatment as an efficient, economic and eco-friendly alternative.
