Bioinformatics: Pattern Recognition with Artificial Intelligence on HIV Data

RESUMEN:

The problem to face is the discovering of new genetic patterns using Human Immunodeficiency Virus datasets, considering that this is a difficult task due to high dimension of the data. The proposal is to made use of different Artificial Intelligences (AIs) methods. One proposed approach is to use induction trees (i.e. ID3 and J48 algorithms) and association rule algorithms (i.e. the Apriori technique) in order to discover the variables that show interaction and affect the outcome. Another approach is to use non-linear classification techniques, such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), including the more recent methods represented by Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs), Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), in order to help in the classification of new unseen examples related to the disease. We plan to measure the performance of AI methods by comparing the results against traditional statistical methods used in the medical area.
