DESCRIPCIÓN: | Groundwater is an important water resource in the semiarid Mexican Altiplano, which is exposed to intense exploitation. Since the 1970s, the focus of the water suppliers has increasingly been placed on deep aquifers provoking a significant drawdown of the groundwater surface. New approaches in water management are therefore needed to keep pace with the increasing water demand. Two sedimentary basins are selected for a comprehensive study of their deep groundwater resources. These are the Calera basin of Zacatecas and the Graben of San Luis Potosí. By evaluating hydrogeological data as well as climate data, conceptual models are being developed ending up in flow models subsequently. Comparing both systems, parallelism shall be identified concerning the flow behavior to generate modeling patterns and comparisons shall be drawn to hydrochemical data of former studies. In a first step, a conceptual model of the basin of San Luis Potosí is build using state of the art geological 3D-modelling techniques. |
