Analysis of residual stresses in injection plastic parts

RESUMEN:

The approach of the project is the development of a method to identify and quantify the residual stresses generated during the plastic injection process. In order to carry out this methodology it is necessary to investigate the state of the art of the plastic injection process and the design of plastic parts as well as the study of the various process and design parameters that can generate residual stresses. A mathematical model will be proposed that considers the influence of the parameters of design, raw material and process that allows the calculation of residual stresses in plastic pieces. Once the quantitative characteristics of these stresses have been determined, this information will be used to analyze the structural performance of a piece considering the residual stresses calculated in order to optimize the design of the piece based not only on the information of the application of the product but information from prior process and material. A residual stress measurement method will be proposed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model.
