ABSTRACT:

The paper deals with the development of an intelligent system based on group of expert agents whose individual structure has the structure of an expert system. The domain knowledge modeling by means of independent expert agents and further integration of them in one global intelligent system allow to provide the system with wide flexibility and dynamism regarding the growth of the one in order to embrace new problems. The growth of the system occurs at the internal level of each expert agent by adding new rules as well as at global system level by means of other expert systems generation. The individual growth of each expert agent does not affect the rest of the agents, in same way the generation of new expert agents in knowledge base does not affect other independent expert agents. These advantages also are reflected of the intelligent system operation. The application and validation of this model of intelligent system were realized for highway projects environmental impact assessment, so much for the identification and evaluation of impacts (qualitative and quantitative) as well as for mitigation actions management. Each expert agent is based on the knowledge of human experts in carrying out this type of studies; knowledge that has been captured in a large knowledge base conformed by group of expert agents based on the structure of an expert system. The Intelligent System integrates each expert agent with a relational database, in order to manipulate the great volume of data and information that is required for the identification and evaluation of impacts, as well as in order to propose the mitigation actions. Also the open architecture of the system, allows managing several projects simultaneously, which permits to give them pursuit regarding their advance. Carrying out the evaluation of impacts, the system allows obtaining a series of reports corresponding to a qualitative and/ or quantitative evaluation of direct and indirect impacts.
